Taveras, Wong selected for MLB Futures Game

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Cardinals' two most-celebrated prospects will face off in the Sirius XM All-Star 2013 Futures game next month in New York.

Triple-A Memphis teammates Oscar Taveras and Kolten Wong have been selected for the showcase, the MLB announced Wednesday. Taveras, an outfielder from the Dominican Republic, will play for the World Team. Wong, an infielder from Hawaii, will play second base for the United States squad.

Both prospects rank among the MLB.com's Top-100 prospects. Third-ranked Taveras, who has been limited lately due to an ankle injury, is batting .306 with 32 RBIs and five homers through 46 games.  Wong, ranked 70th, is hitting .316 with 24 RBIs and five homers through 68 games.

The 15th annual Futures Game takes place at 1 p.m. CT on All-Star Sunday, July 14. The game will be played at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. Live coverage will be provided on MLB.com and ESPN 2.
