The Indians have activated first baseman Nick Swisher off the disabled list as they get set to open a four-game series against Boston. To make room for Swisher, Jason Giambi was placed on the 15-day DL due to inflammation in his left knee.

Swisher, who will be the designated hitter and bat seventh tonight, had been on the DL since May 27 due to a left knee hyperextension. He spent two games in Akron as part of a rehab assignment and went 3 for 6 with two doubles and two RBi.

So far this season, Swisher is batting .211 (39 of185) with 11 doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI in 49 games. Prior to being placed on the DL, he was 7 for 22 with a double and three RBI in his past six games.

This is Giambi's third stint on the DL this season. He has played 15 games and is batting .128 (6 for 47) with two home runs and five RBI.

A surprise going into the game is that Lonnie Chisenhall isn't in the lineup. Carlos Santana will remain at first and Mike Aviles will play third. Chisenhall, who has a nine-game hitting streak and is batting .395 on the season, will sit for the first time since a May 17 game against Oakland.

Chisenhall has never faced Boston starter John Lester but he is 14 for 28 against left handers this season.
