ALTO, Texas (AP) An aneurysm is being blamed for the death of an East Texas high school football player who collapsed on the sidelines during a game.
Alto High School junior Cam'ron Matthews died Saturday after collapsing before halftime of a Friday night home game against Price-Carlisle. The rest of the game was called off.
Alto School Superintendent Kerry Birdwell tells KTRE-TV (http://bit.ly/1LkOAOD ) in Lufkin that the school's athletic director was with Matthews' family when a doctor informed them of Matthews' diagnosis. Birdwell says the doctor told the family the aneurysm may not be football-related.
An aneurysm is a blood-filled bulge or balloon in a blood vessel wall that can rupture.
Alto High School has about 200 students. The town has about 1,200 residents and is about 130 miles north of Houston.
