Sun Devils will miss their best quarterback

Arizona State lost its best quarterback this week.

That opinion will be wildly unpopular in the Sun Devil community. Fans who have never so much as talked to Brock Osweiler will tell you he has better leadership skills than Steven Threet.

They'll point out that Osweiler doesn't turn the ball over the way Threet did in an 18-touchdown, 16-interception 2010 season. They'll insist Osweiler would have won the job from Threet next season anyway.

Don't believe a word of it.

There's a reason Threet started all but one game last season.

"He earned it," coach Dennis Erickson said.

Threet was the best quarterback on the roster. If he were healthy, he'd be the best man for the job again next season.

"I think the criticism of him was overblown," Erickson said. "He came into a new offensive scheme and gave us some productivity that we didn't have before.

"He helped get us going in a positive way. We will miss him."
