So much for those rumors that Ndamukong Suh would hire rapper Jay-Z as his agent, or that he might even represent himself in contract negotiations.
Suh, the Detroit Lions' star defensive tackle, has signed a deal with high-profile agent Jimmy Sexton and Creative Artists Agency, according to a report from Sports Business Journal.
The timing is important for the Lions because free agency begins next week in the NFL. The Lions are expected to try to work out a contract extension with Suh, who can become a free agent after next season.
His $22.4-million cap hit for 2014 would be reduced significantly with an extension, thus giving the club more flexibility to sign free agents.
Contract talks were put on hold because Suh hadn't decided on an agent to replace former Lions player Rosey Barnes, who had negotiated his rookie deal.
Sexton has been called the most powerful agent in college football because he represents the likes of Alabama coach Nick Saban, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher.
His clients also include former Lions coach Jim Schwartz and New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham.
Suh, 27, was the second pick overall by Detroit in the 2010 draft coming out of Nebraska. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his four years in the NFL.
Those players are receiver/return specialist Jeremy Ross, receiver Kris Durham, cornerback Chris Greenwood, linebacker Julian Stanford and tight end Matt Veldman.
Exclusive-rights free agents are not eligible to negotiate with another team unless their club declines to make an offer to them.
