Los Angeles KISS coach Bob McMillen made it clear back on April 27 after suffering their third consecutive defeat that no spot on the roster was safe.
"I'm going to find the guys that want to play and help the L.A. KISS win football games," McMillen said.
He wasn't bluffing either.
The KISS (2-6) dealt starting quarterback J.J. Raterink, the No. 3 claim spot and future considerations to the Jacksonville Sharks for 21-year veteran quarterback Aaron Garcia days after suffering their fifth straight loss.
"Aaron brings an incredible pedigree and much-needed competitive spirit to LA KISS," McMillen said in a team statement. "He's been able to do some amazing things in this league and we're confident he will help us move ahead -- both on and off the field."
Garcia is a three-time First Team All-Arena selection (2000, 2001, 2011) and an ArenaBowl MVP for his winning performance in 2011's ArenaBowl XXIV.
The Sharks sent Raterink back to the Iowa Brainstormers in exchange for defensive tackle James McClinton.
In the first eight games of the season, the KISS ranks last in scoring and total offense. Raterink also has a league-high 16 interceptions.
Garcia will make his KISS debut Saturday when it faces the Pittsburgh Power.
