Stiff back forces Hamilton to leave game

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, who leads the major leagues with 25 RBIs, left Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay with a stiff back.

Hamilton hurt his back in the bottom of the first inning after delivering an RBI single. He also grimaced sliding into second base on an Adrian Beltre grounder later in the inning. He remained in the game but game out in the middle of the third and was replaced by David Murphy.

Hamilton is day-to-day according to Texas assistant general manager Thad Levine. Hamilton ‘s first inning RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to give him 25 RBIs. He’s hitting .395 and also leads the American League with nine home runs.

While Hamilton is day-to-day, the Rangers fly to Toronto for a three-game series beginning Monday on the artificial surface at Rogers Centre. In the past, Texas manager Ron Washington has used caution with his players on the turf.
