Stephen F Austin turns back North Texas 59-48

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) -- Jared Johnson scored a career-high 17 points and Stephen F. Austin held an opponent to less than 50 points for the second time in three games in a 59-48 win over North Texas on Sunday.

Thomas Walkup added 13 points for the Lumberjacks (7-3), who have won six straight.

Jordan Williams topped the Mean Green (4-4) with 15 points.

North Texas shot just 29 percent (12-41), making 3 of 15 3-pointers, and were 21 of 30 from the foul line.

Stephen F. Austin led 36-20 at halftime and were up 48-37 on a three-point play by Tanner Clayton with 8:17 to go. North Texas whittled the deficit to seven with 2:45 left but then missed its next four shots and had two turnovers while the Lumberjacks hit 5 of 8 free throws and scored seven straight points to pull away.
