Stanton's play a bright spot on another dark Sunday

Detroit -- Somewhere in the rubble of defensive breakdowns and missed opportunities that sent the Lions tottering again were a few bright spots that pierced the gloom of a fifth straight loss.

Drew Stanton was one of the bright spots. He needed to make some kind of statement about his present value with the Lions and for his future as a quarterback in the NFL.

Cliff Avril was another, sacking Bears quarterback Jay Cutler three times.

And the Rev. Jesse Jackson made his presence felt. He was in town to visit Aretha Franklin, who underwent surgery earlier in the week. Rev. Jackson, a Chicago resident, attended the game and gave a fist-pump as he stepped into media room after the game.

It was a fitting gesture on one level. The Lions lose religiously on Sunday. They did it again Sunday -- a 24-20 loss to the Bears at Ford Field that made their record 2-10.
