St. Edward-Huber Heights Wayne meet in rematch of 2010 final

COLUMBUS -- Huber Heights Wayne coach Jay Minton said it took him awhile for him to get over the sting of losing to Lakewood St. Edward in the 2010 Division I final.

Things come full circle on Saturday when the two teams meet again. This time it is at Ohio Stadium with kickoff at 3 p.m.

St. Edward won their first state title with a 35-28 win over Wayne. The Warriors took a 28-27 lead with 2:34 remaining on a Braxton Miller touchdown but the Eagles drove 60 yards in seven plays, which was capped off by a Terrell Bates 17-yard touchdown run along with a two-point conversion.

"To grow and get better sometimes you have to let go of those things," Minton said. "Me as a coach I did a boneheaded move at the end of the game. I had one of the best players on sidelines in Braxton and I have him beside me. What could I have done different? I I had to get past it a little bit."

Wayne (13-1) advanced to Columbus with a 29-22 win over two-time defending champion Cincinnati Moeller. D'Mitrik Trice threw for 293 yards in that game. He has passed for 39 touchdowns and over 2,500 yards on the season.

St. Edward (12-2) is in after a 42-14 victory over Hudson. In the last five games they have outscored their opponents 202-39.

The Eagles are attempting to become the third school in OHSAA history to win the boys basketball and football state championships in the same calendar year. St. Ignatius did it in 2001and St. Henry accomplished it in 1990 and 2004.

In the other two games, perennial Midwest Athletic Conference powers Coldwater and Maria Stein Marion Local try to repeat. Marion Local (14-0) faces Norwalk St. Paul (13-1) for the Division VII title at 10 a.m. and Coldwater (13-1) takes on Canton Central Catholic (14-0) for the Division V title at 8 p.m.
