The San Antonio Spurs' quest to get back to the NBA Finals is off to a rough start.

The team announced Thursday that forward Tim Duncan is day-to-day and listed as doubtful for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Spurs say Duncan underwent a CT scan that confirmed he has a chest contusion.

Duncan suffered the injury in the third quarter of the Spurs' season-opening win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

He will travel with the team on its three-game road trip to the west coast.

Duncan is entering his 17th season in the NBA and had one of his best years in nearly a decade last season.

He played in 69 regular season games in 2012-13, averaging 17.8 points and 9.9 rebounds in the Spurs' run to the NBA Finals.
