NORMAN, Okla. - In between sound bites of Oklahoma coaches and players talking about how their execution wasn't good in the loss against TCU last week and how this week's matchup against Texas is just another game, we learned a few things.
A few nuggets from Monday's meeting with the media:
Keith Ford may play. He also may not play
Samaje Perine has run for seven touchdowns and more than 300 yards the past two weeks, so it's not like the Sooner running game has suffered, but a lot of folks think Ford is the team's best running back.
Ford could return Saturday against Texas.
Coach Bob Stoops said he's still unsure of Ford's status. Ford suffered a broken fibula against Tennessee and missed the game against West Virginia and TCU.
"He's getting closer but I'll announce that once I know for sure," Stoops said.
Ford has 194 yards rushing through three games and also has six catches for 100 yards.
Perine leads the team with 506 yards and eight touchdowns.
Sterling has been sensational
Sterling Shepard has been so good this season , it may be working against Trevor Knight and the Sooners
Shepard has 30 catches for 651 yards and three touchdowns. Saturday against TCU, Shepard had 215 receiving yards on seven catches, including a touchdown.
However, Stoops suggested it was important Knight make sure to get others involved, too.
"We do have to make sure we are spreading it around more," Stoops said. "You can't deny the effect Sterling has had, but we still need to get more people involved."
Durron Neal has 21 catches and K.J. Young has 13 catches. No wide receivers other than Shepard have a receiving touchdown. Tight end Blake Bell has one and Ford has one, too.
"We have to be more efficient throwing the ball," offensive coordinator Josh Heupel said.
Knight is completing just 54.5 percent of his passes this season, and part of that can be attributed only having eyes for Shepard.
Adam Shead is going to be heckled
Oklahoma offensive lineman Adam Shead said he took a bit of grief from friends and teammates when he signed with Oklahoma out of Cedar Hill (Texas) High.
After all, Cedar Hill is the Longhorns, and Shead said growing up, it was expected he would play for Mack Brown and the Texas Longhorns.
"I have a picture with Mack Brown throwing the 'Horns Up' sign," Shead said. "Being from Texas, that's all you hear about. You hear about OU, but you don't know about it unless you have ties to OU.
"It's personal (the game vs. Texas), especially since everyone wanted me to go there."
Call her, maybe?
Pop sensation Katy Perry asked Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight to call her.
Monday, Knight said he hasn't done it yet.
What? What's he waiting around for?
Perry expressed her interest in Knight, talked about his looks and predicted the Sooners to beat TCU when she talked with ESPN's "Gameday" Saturday.
When asked about it on Monday when he visited with media, Knight said he hadn't called her, but didn't say he wouldn't.
"I'm not sure yet," Knight said.
Knight does have a girlfriend, but then again, he has completed less than 58 percent of his passes this season after beating Alabama in the Sugar Bowl a season ago.
Maybe Knight won't need her number. Perry performed in Tulsa, Okla., Monday night, about two hours away from Norman.
