Soldat made early favorite for Florida Derby

Soldat has drawn the inside post and been made the morning-line favorite for Sunday's $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park.

Soldat is listed as the 9-5 top choice.

Soldat also broke from the No. 1 post five weeks ago when he easily won the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and to be ridden again by Alan Garcia, Soldat has three wins and four second-place finishes in seven career starts.

A field of eight has entered the Florida Derby. The rest of the field, from Soldat outward, is: To Honor and Serve, Arch Traveler, Bowman's Causeway, Shackleford, Stay Thirsty, Dialed In and Flashpoint.
