Florida State University wide receiver Greg Dent was arrested on Sunday by the Tallahassee Police Department and charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony.
Dent faced a $15,000 bond but bailed out on Monday afternoon. No court date has been set for his next appearance.
“We are aware of the situation with Greg Dent,” Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said. “He's suspended indefinitely from all team activities as we let the legal process run its course.”
According to a probable cause report, Dent and a longtime friend had dinner at her apartment on Sunday. After dinner, they went out to a local club and then ate at McDonald's before returning to Dent's apartment.
The friend had stayed over at Dent's apartment in the past without any problems, the report states. This time, she fell asleep and allegedly woke up to find Dent trying to kiss her, and she told him to stop.
According to the report, Dent allegedly became more forceful, and the victim grabbed Dent's dreadlocks with one hand and punched him in the head with her other hand. She then kicked, him, punched him and struck him with her elbow.
The struggle allegedly continued before the victim was able to break free, grab her clothes and purse and leave the apartment.
Dent caught 27 passes for 355 yards and two touchdowns last season as a junior. He had received praise from coach Jimbo Fisher for his consistent play this spring.
Under Florida State athletics department policy, no student-athlete facing a felony charge can participate in team activities.
