Seeking the Sherif wins Santa Anita feature

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Seeking the Sherif won the $60,000 feature by three-quarters of a length at Santa Anita on Friday for his third straight victory.

Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Seeking the Sherif ran six furlongs in 1:08.75 and paid $5, $2.40 and $2.10.

Declassify returned $2.80 and $2.10, while Omega Star was another 4 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $2.40 to show.

Seeking the Sherif was claimed for $12,500 on Dec. 28 by trainer Ron Ellis.

''He ran awesome,'' Ellis said. ''He's a great little horse and he's been a dream claim. He's a dream to train and we'll just take our time and try to figure out what to do next.''

The victory, worth $36,000, increased Seeking the Sherif's career earnings to $114,200, with five wins in seven starts.
