Seeking the Sherif wins Katella Stakes

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) Seeking the Sherif broke the Los Alamitos record for six furlongs Saturday, winning the $75,000 Katella in 1:08.40 for his first stakes victory.
Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Seeking the Sherif bettering the mark of 1:08.57 set two weeks ago by When We Met. The 5-year-old gelding won by 1 1/2 lengths and returned $4.40, $2.60 and $2.20 as the 6-5 favorite.
Distinctiv Passion returned $3.40 and $2.40, and Spirit Rules was another length back in third and paid $2.40 to show.
The victory, worth $45,000, increased Seeking the Sherif's career earnings to $244,100, with seven wins in 11 starts. He was claimed for $12,500 in December.
