San Pail wins harness Horse of the Year

San Pail, a 7-year-old who won 14 of 16 races in 2011, was honored Sunday as harness racing's Horse of the Year.
The champion from Canada also took home the trophies for Trotter of the Year and top older trotter at the annual banquet of the U.S. Harness Writers Association.
San Pail received 93 of 117 votes for Horse of the Year after winning $1.28 million. He is the oldest honoree since 7-year-old Savoir in 1975.
Foiled Again, another 7-year-old, was the Pacer of the Year in the closest balloting in the history of that award. Foiled Again edged 3-year-old colt champion Roll With Joe 41-37. Foiled Again was also voted the top older pacer.
Other division winners were: 2-year-old male trotter, Possess The Will; 2-year-old male pacer, Sweet Lou; 2-year-old filly pacer, Economy Terror; 3-year-old male trotter, Broad Bahn; 3-year-old filly trotter, Cedar Dove; 3-year-old filly pacer, See You At Peelers; older female trotter, Action-Broadway; and older female pacer, Anndrovette.
