Samuels' 50no leads West Indies to 138-2 in 1st test

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) Marlon Samuels thwarted the spin threat of Yasir Shah with a half-century as West Indies reached 138-2 against Pakistan at tea on the third day of the day-night test on Saturday.
Samuels smashed eight fours in an unbeaten 50 - only his second half-century in the last 17 innings - and Darren Bravo was 30 not out.
West Indies still trails by 441 runs after Azhar Ali's triple-century farmed a monumental total of 579-3 declared.
Shah sent West Indies early jitters when the wily legspinner had opener Kraigg Brathwaite (38) clean bowled in his first over of the day before West Indies added to its overnight 69-1.
But Samuels hit successive boundaries in the off side off Shah's first two deliveries that he faced and, with Bravo, added 69 more runs in the first session.
