The Oprah Winfrey Network is pumping the breaks on its recently announced Michael Sam' documentary series -- "The Untitled Michael Sam Project."

OWN has announced that the project has been postponed following discussions with the St. Louis Rams.

"After careful consideration and discussion with the St. Louis Rams, 'The Untitled Michael Sam Project' has been postponed, allowing Michael the best opportunity to achieve his dreams of making the team," Erik Logan, OWN's president, said in a statement. "OWN is about elevating and empowering people to achieve their best. It's clear that we, along with the world, recognize the opportunity that Michael has in this moment. We will continue to support him in his journey to earn a spot playing for the Rams."

It puts a cap on a rather contradicting week for the former All-American defensive end. On Tuesday, Sam was saying all the right things about being focused on football and football alone. On Wednesday, it was announced that he would be the subject of an OWN docu-series on his journey to the NFL.

The two concepts didn't quite line up -- and the Rams took notice.

Cameron Weiss, Sam's agent, had a personal meeting with the Rams on Friday.

"After today's meeting with the Rams, we felt it is best to postpone the project," Weiss said. "This will allow for Michael to have total focus on football, and will ensure no distractions to his teammates. Everybody involved remains committed to this project and understands its historical importance as well as its positive message."
