Saints sign Wade as team awaits news on Greer

The Saints have signed cornerback Trevin Wade, a seventh round draft pick for the Cleveland Browns out of Arizona as the team and fans anxiously await news about the severity of veteran cornerback Jabari Greer's left knee injury.
Greer's injury occurred late in the first quarter of Sunday's matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, when he landed awkwardly while breaking up a pass from Jon Baldwin on third down. Trainers immobilized Greer's knee in an inflatable air cast and carted him off the field.
"I don't have an official update," head coach Sean Payton said. "I know he's visiting with the doctors, and I'll probably have more information for you tomorrow. It was a significant injury. We're just kind of keeping our fingers crossed with him. I spoke with him last night in the hospital. I know it's always difficult when someone like Jabari, who's been with us and been a staple of what we've done defensively, goes down with an injury like he sustained."
Greer is in his 10th year, having spent the first five seasons with Buffalo. He arrived in New Orleans in time for the Super Bowl run and has since proven to be a dependable, steady leader on the defense through a litany of changes and upheaval.
"Jabari has been great this year. He's played up to what he did in previous years and he was playing at a very high level," said defensive end Cam Jordan. "So for him to go down like that, you have to rely on the coaching staff that has picked players for our team just to know that this is next man up. We can't replace the spiritual leadership that Jabari brings to the team, as well as the on-field leadership, but talent-wise, I think that Corey White is very promising, and he's going to be a great guy in the future."
"When he left off the field he was waving, he was smiling. That's just Jabari," wide receiver Robert Meacham said. "He was doing the same thing today. He walked through the locker room, so we talked to him. We were joking with him, trying to keep his spirits up."
