Tony Romo says he never thought about retirement after having December back surgery to repair a herniated disk.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana had a similar operation in 1986 and doctors told him he might never play again. Montana, who was 30 at the time, returned to the field two months later. Romo recently used the four-time Super Bowl champ as an example for why he feels there are several more seasons ahead for him.
"There's never a thought about not coming back," Romo said Friday on the NFL Network. "I'm chasing a dream and a goal and I'm going to do everything I can. (Even) if I sacrifice my back and some ribs in the process. But that's what makes it great."

During the interview segment with reporter Desmond Purnell, which took place at Romo's home, the outside criticism the quarterback often receives was discussed.
Romo's wife, Candice, says it's not a problem in person because people are usually nice to her face. But she is well aware of her husband's critics.
"I don't know how he does it," Candice said. "If it was me in his shoes, I'd probably cry every day. He does such a good job of handling it. As a wife, it's so hard because you want everybody to love your spouse as much as you love them."
