One player who was around for the last major change in Austin believes it's time for another transition for the Longhorns.
Ricky Williams, who was the Longhorns starting running back when former Texas head coach John Mackovic was fired and current head coach Mack Brown was brought in back in 1998, says it's time for another change for the storied program.
"You know, there are times when it's time for a transition," Williams told the USA Today's For the Win on Thursday. "And whether that means the head coach or the coordinator or whatever, something has to change.
"When you fight change, things get bad. When you kind of invite the change and enjoy the change, then really cool things can happen."
The Longhorns have been in the midst of a struggle that has lasted longer then the university might have liked.
Texas fired defensive coordinator Manny Diaz earlier this week after an embarrassing loss to BYU last weekend.
There might not be a hotter seat in college football right now then the one under Brown.
Despite Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds coming out this week in support of Brown, the Longhorns have upcoming games against Ole Miss and rival Oklahoma that could test that resolve, depending on how well Texas performs.
A loss to either team, and you can be sure there will be many more following the words of Williams in their charge for change to happen deep in the heart of Texas.
