Georgia football head coach Mark Richt and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham have been given contract extensions, the athletic director Greg McGarity announced Monday.

Richt's extension is for three years, added to his existing contract, gives Richt a total of five years through the 2016 season. His current deal is worth $2.81 million annually. Financial details of the new contract are in the process of being finalized.

"The extension is a statement that we are excited to have Mark as our coach and that he is excited about being at Georgia in the years to come,'' McGarity said in a joint statement released by the university.

"I've said for many years that I wanted to be at Georgia as long as Georgia wanted me,'' said Richt, whose Bulldogs won 10 straight games last fall and finished 10-4 after winning the SEC East.  "I'm excited about where we are with our program and looking forward to the years ahead.''

Richt announced that Grantham has agreed to a two-year extension. The new three-year deal will take him through the 2014 season. Financial details were not disclosed.

"Todd has done an outstanding job with our defense and I know our staff and players look forward to his continuing leadership on that side of the ball,'' Richt said in the statement.

Richt also announced two additions to the strength and conditioning program.

John Thomas has been named senior associate director of strength and conditioning. Thomas has been Penn State's director of football strength and conditioning for the past 20 years.

Sherman Armstrong, founder and head performance specialist at Vast Sports Performance, has been named associate strength and conditioning coach. Thomas had also served as head strength coach at Army.
