Rhythm of Light wins on closing day

Rhythm of Light won the $150,000 Goldikova Stakes by 1-1/2 lengths on Sunday at Santa Anita on closing day of the autumn meet.

Ridden by Garret Gomez, Rhythm of Light ran one mile on the turf in 1 minute, 33.42 seconds and paid $6.80 to win as the 2-1 favorite in the field of seven fillies and mares. She won a Group 2 race in Turkey on Sept. 1 before shipping to the West Coast for her US debut.

A Jealous Woman finished second, and Vivo Per Lei was third.

The victory, worth $90,000, increased Rhythm of Light's career earnings to $403,659. The Britain-bred filly will remain in the United States and transfer to trainer Simon Callaghan.

Joe Talamo became the first jockey other than Rafael Bejarano or Joel Rosario to win a riding title at one of Southern California's three major tracks since 2007. He rode 37 winners to 21 for Bejarano.

Bob Baffert won his 10th training title at Santa Anita with 19 winners, beating out John Sadler with 12.
