Reports: Browns set to retain Cameron; then lose him to Dolphins
BEREA, Ohio -- It started as some positive news coming out of Berea.
But it ended negatively as after initial reports surfaced that Jordan Cameron had agreed to a two-year deal for $15 million with the Browns, only to be found that he agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins.
The Browns did not confirme the signing of Cameron on the first report.
Cameron is the fourth free agent lost thus far in Buster Skrine, Brian Hoyer and Jabaal Sheard. The Browns were looking at options if they couldn't re-sign Cameron, including Charles Clay of the Dolphins or Jermaine Gresham of the Bengals.
Clay was given the transition tag with the Dolphins, meaning they could match any offer given to the tight end. It is unclear if they would still pursue Clay if they signed Cameron.
Cameron's production in 2013 dropped from 80 receptions to 24 receptions last season and his yardage totals went from 917 yards to 424 yards. He had seven touchdowns in 2013 and just two in 2014. Cameron's biggest play of the season was an 81-yard touchdown catch against the Panthers. In that game, he finished with three catches for 88 yards.
Cameron's went to the Pro Bowl in 2013 and he has caught 130 passes for 1,600 yards in his four-year career with the Browns, including 10 touchdowns after being a fourth-round draft choice in 2011 from Southern Cal.
Cameron has battled concussions and missed five games in 2014. He has missed at least one game in each of the last three seasons due to concussions.
