Former NFL receiver Randy Moss had a big announcement for his 35th birthday. He's not done with the NFL just yet.
According to Pro Football Talk, Moss announced via a Ustream live video that he wants to return to the NFL, less than a year after quietly retiring. Moss, who ranks second all time in Vikings' history in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, didn't play in 2011 after going through three teams in a dismal 2010 season.
"I just wanna go to a team and play some football," Moss said on his Ustream broadcast.
According to his agent Joel Segal in August 2011, Moss made the decision to retire, going out without much fanfare. Moss is ninth in league history with 954 catches, fourth all time with 14,858 yards and tied for second in history with 153 touchdown catches.
During the 2010 season, the explosive and volatile receiver was traded from New England back to Minnesota, where he spent the first seven seasons of his 13-year career. The move was celebrated by Vikings fans, but Moss was released after a troubling four games in which he totaled 13 catches. The Titans picked him up for the final eight games, but he made only six catches for 80 yards in that time.
After a year off, Moss' 35-year old legs must be ready for more action.
He has tried to engage fans via Ustream — he calls it "mosstv" — for the past few days and was testing out the procedure for his big announcement. He encouraged his Twitter followers to tune in and tweeted that the broadcast would be "only for moss fans!!"
After using the past year to focus on things away from the field, Moss said his family has told him, "It's fine, whatever you wanna do."
Moss answered questions from viewers before dropping his big news.
"Faith, family, and football, that's my MO, bro," Moss said. "Your boy be back for the upcoming season."
The recently shorn Moss reportedly had a bag of his hair and said it smelled "musty," like "sauerkraut."
Moss must have received positive support from his followers.
Tweeting at @DaRealOtisMoss after the video, he said, "Thank all u for the luv now back to biz!!there's good an bad an u have to b ready for both!its in gods hand now"
Moss might have been hinting about a possible return last week when he tweeted: "It hasn't been a full yr yet fans!!my body isn't gone this tank is full!!I didn't leave the game because of fball.something bigger to tackle"
Moss is a free agent, so he doesn't have to wait until the opening of free agency on March 13 to sign with a new team. Which team will take a chance on the aging receiver is now the question.
