Report: Lions tender offer to Cliff Avril

On the first day of March, the Lions are apparently looking at the future of Avril in Detroit.

Cliff Avril, who has blossomed into an effective pass-rusher in three seasons at defensive end for the Lions,  has been tendered an offer designed to keep him with the Lions in his status as a restricted free agent, according to broadcast reports.

Avril will be a restricted free agent, based on three years of NFL service. The tender offer reportedly gives the Lions first- and third-round draft picks from any team that signs Avril to a contract. The Lions also can retain Avril by matching any contract.

Details of the free-agent signing period remain unclear because of the status of negotiations between the league
