Mike Jenkins was approached by reporters several times during mandatory mini-camp, attempting to get the Dallas Cowboys cornerback to comment on his surgically-repaired right shoulder or rumored request for a trade.
Following a morning walkthrough Monday at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif., Jenkins finally broke his silence.
"A lot of it is way off," Jenkins told reporters, according to DallasCowboys.com. "I never asked for a trade. A lot of people are going to talk and make assumptions. It's not my job to try to correct it. My focus is to get better healthy and get back on the field."
Jenkins, who had his shoulder operation in January, rehabbed for much of the offseason in Florida, instead of joining teammates during voluntary workouts at the Cowboys' Valley Ranch practice facility.
It was speculated that Jenkins was upset by the Cowboys signing free agent cornerback Brandon Carr and drafting cornerback Morris Claiborne with the sixth overall pick. Carr and Claiborne are the projected starting corners entering training camp.
"They called me after the fact and let me know," Jenkins said. "It's a business. It's not for me to get mad. I was in the same situation when I came in (2008). I feel like it's the best man wins. It's going to make everyone better at the end of the day."
Jenkins, 27, started 12 games last season, recording one interception and 24 tackles. He started 31 games over the previous two seasons, recording a career-high five interceptions in 2009.
