Michigan State coach Tom Izzo will return to coach the Spartans next season, he announced Wednesday on ESPNU's College Basketball podcast.

Izzo was rumored to be a candidate for head coaching jobs with the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves.

"I heard my name mentioned with jobs over the years and even this year nobody has talked to me even once," Izzo said. "So if I'm good enough to coach in that league, and someone thinks I am, I should be good enough to coach college players."

Although Izzo confirmed he will be back for the 2014-15 season, he didn't completely close the door on a future NBA coaching job.

"If somebody made me an offer to be the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers that was so good that it would impress everybody, does that mean I would never say never? I'm not doing that anymore," Izzo said. "I've seen too many people get stung that way. But put it this way, I've got a big-time recruit coming in an hour and if I was leaving I wouldn't be recruiting."

In 20 years as the head coach at MSU, Izzo has reached the Final Four six times, winning the national title in 2000 and reaching the championship game again in 2009.

This past season the Spartans lost in the Elite Eight to UConn, the eventual national champion.
