Kicker Jason Hanson will turn 43 in a couple months, but he's not done yet.
Â
According to the Detroit News, Hanson, an unrestricted free agency, has informed the Detroit Lions that he plans to return next season for his 22nd year in the NFL.
Â
Contract terms still need to be worked out, but Hanson previously indicated he realizes he'll need to take a pay cut after having a cap hit of more than $3 million in 2012.
Hanson's agent, Jack Mills, told the News that although Hanson's prefers to play for the Lions, contract negotiations will play a role.
Â
The minimum annual salary for a player of his experience is nearly $1 million.
Â
Hanson, a second-round draft pick in 1992 by Detroit, continued to perform at a high level last season: He made 32 of his 36 field-goal attempts.
Â
He said wanted to take time after the season to contemplate retirement.
Â
On the eve of free agency, Hanson notified the club of his desire to come back for another year.
