It's just not cricket!

An Indian man is in custody for biting off an opponent's ear during a bad-tempered game of cricket.

Locals had formed two teams to enjoy a relaxing game of leather on willow in the town of Thiruninravur, near Chennai, southern India.

But the seemingly genteel sport soon spawned a furious argument between two players, which ended with one sinking his teeth into a rival's ear, The Times of India reported.

The injured cricketer was rushed to the hospital where his severed lobe was reattached, the newspaper said. His attacker, merely named Ravi in the report, was arrested and remains in custody.
