An arm-wrestling champion is being held without bail after police said his wife died by jumping from a second-floor window to flee his violent attack.

Allen Stilkey, 40, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of manslaughter, assault and battery and threatening to commit a crime in the death of his wife Lisa Stilkey, who was 44, the Boston Herald reported.

Police said Lisa Stilkey died Friday after jumping out of a second-floor window of her Douglas, Mass., home after a heated argument with her husband turned violent.

A police report says she threw a pillow out of the window and aimed to land on it, but her injuries from the impact were severe.

She was pronounced dead on arrival at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass., about 42 miles west of Boston.

Allen Stilkey barricaded himself in the home and refused to cooperate with police before being apprehended.

According to the Herald, witnesses said "Allen Stilkey was threatening to kill her" and police determined in their report that "a violent struggle had occurred in the home."

Prosecutors say Allen Stilkey recently secured a $250,000 life insurance policy on his wife, the Herald reported.

Prosecutors had asked for $500,000 bail, but Uxbridge, Mass., District Court Judge Paul Losapio decided to deny bail altogether on Monday.

The 6-foot tall, 230-pound Allen Stilkey was the 1995 International Arm Wrestling Federation Arm Wrestler of the Year.
