ARLINGTON, Texas -- The right elbow surgery that's costing Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish the entire 2015 season has had another impact on him.

His English has regressed.

"Problem for me is when the team is on the road I'm not with my teammates so I'm not really speaking English which is getting worse," Darvish joked.

One thing Darvish is also considering is getting dual citizenship.

"I heard (Miami pitcher) Jose Fernandez got his American citizenship," said Darvish, who was born in Osaka, Japan. "I asked the tam if they could help me with my English. I'd like to get citizenship."

Darvish hasn't been traveling with the club and has been rehabbing his arm at a facility in Arlington. He said he hasn't been able to watch many games when the team is on the road because he's had problems with his television.

One area Darvish hasn't been having problems is with the rehab process. He's shed the bulky arm brace he was wearing since he had his ligament replacement surgery in March. He's finished range-of-motion exercises and is now working on strengthening his right shoulder and forearm using dumb bells.

"I'm just doing what I can right now," he said. "I really have a positive mindset doing what I can each day. I actually didn't have much pain compared to other players who had surgery so if I wanted to push it I could have, but I just want to take it slow and take the right steps towards recovery."
