Tony LaRussa may have irritated Reds fans (and the teams manager) with his All-Star decisions, but he has at least seen the light in one respect: He's going to bat Joey Votto clean-up during the game itself. Which doesn't exactly help Brandon Phillips, but it's a start.
Speaking of Phillips, there is an escalating war brewing between two rival sporting goods companies, Rawlings and Wilson, over a gold glove made by the latter infringing on the "gold glove" trademark held by the latter.
Rawlings seeks to prohibit Wilson from using any gold on their gloves, as well as legal fees. Phillips himself is not involved in the lawsuit.
