Recruit Sandy Cohen decides to stick with Marquette

After first seeking a release from his letter of intent, Sandy Cohen has decided to stick with his commitment to Marquette after meeting with new coach Steve Wojciechowski.

Retaining Cohen is the first big move on the recruiting trail for Wojciechowski, as the Seymour (Wis.) High School product is a four-star recruit and ranked as the 18th-best shooting guard in the class of 2014.

"couldn't be happier to spend the next four years of my life in the city of Milwaukee #MarquetteBound," Cohen tweeted Monday night.

Cohen tweeted he had been released from his letter of intent immediately following Buzz Williams' departure to Virginia Tech, but that was not the case. Marquette's policy requires signed recruits to meet with the new head coach before being released. Interim athletic director Bill Cords called Cohen after he was informed of the tweet and called the situation misunderstanding.

The policy ended up helping the Golden Eagles, as Wojciechowski was able to quickly get Cohen back in the fold. The 6-foot-5 guard led Seymour High School to a 23-2 record this past season, averaging 21.3 points per game.
