KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals announced their Opening Day 25-man roster on Sunday afternoon, one that will feature four bench players and a seven-man bullpen.

Ryan Madson claimed the final spot in Kansas City's relief corps, outlasting Brian Flynn and Louis Coleman in a competition that came down to the final week of spring training. Madson, 34, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2011 after complications due to Tommy John surgery.

Paulo Orlando made the roster as the Royals' fifth outfielder and fourth bench player. Orlando, a 29-year-old Brazilian, will provide depth in the outfield behind Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, Alex Rios and Jarrod Dyson. Orlando beat out Moises Sierra for the last position-player spot.

Kansas City also announced that Luke Hochevar has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Hochevar is still recovering from Tommy John surgery last March. He will begin the season in Triple-A Omaha.
