Rays prospect Taylor Guerrieri suspended by MLB

Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Taylor Guerrieri was suspended 50 games without pay after a second positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, Major League Baseball announced Friday.
Guerrieri, 20, was the No. 24 overall pick in the 2011 MLB June amateur draft. He spent last season with Class A Bowling Green of the Midwest League, where he had a 6-2 record with a 2.01 ERA in 14 starts. The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery July 24 to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, and he was kept out the rest of the year. He was expected to miss most of the 2014 season.
Guerrieri's suspension will be effective at the start of the 2014 season.
