The Tampa Bay Rays have announced a sellout for their Opening Day game against the New York Yankees.

Team officials said that only scattered single tickets remain for the April 6 game at Tropicana Field, and that the sellout is believed to be the third earliest Opening Day sellout in team history.

"It's nice to know," owner Stuart Sternberg said. "It's heartening that we sold out Opening Day in February. Thank God for the 29th."

The Rays went 91-71 in 2011, finishing second to the Yankees in the AL East and winning the AL Wild Card. It was the Rays' third playoff appearance in four seasons.

Tampa is scheduled to open its 2012 spring training schedule on Saturday, when the Rays head to Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers to face the Twins. Game time is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
