ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas right-hander Alexi Ogando's scheduled start Monday is in jeopardy after a CT scan on his right shoulder relieves some inflammation around a nerve.
Ogando is now taking medication for the inflammation and hasn't been ruled out for Monday, but it's certainly a possibility.
"We haven't ruled him out but I think it's heading that way," general manager Jon Daniels said. "I think more than likely based on the information we have it's heading that way but he hasn't been ruled out."
Daniels said the CT scans were also sent to Dr. James Andrews and the team is waiting to hear from him. He said the CT scans showed no structural problems.
Ogando's shoulder has responded to the medication but Daniels also said he could get a cortisone injection, which would knock him out of his Monday start. If Ogando is unable to go, Texas manager Ron Washington said long man Ross Wolf and Triple A pitchers Josh Lindblom and Travis Blackley are options.
Blackley, who was acquired from Houston Wednesday, threw 40 pitches for Round Rock Thursday night. Lindblom is scheduled to start Sunday.
Daniels isn't thinking past Ogando's next scheduled start or a possible stint on the disabled list.
Ogando has already been on the DL twice this year, including a six-week stint for right shoulder inflammation. Daniels said this injury is different because it's nerve related.
