Rangers to honor retiring Rodriguez

Former catcher Ivan Rodriguez will announce his retirement Monday in a 2 p.m. CT press conference at Rangers Ballpark.
The Texas Rangers then will honor Rodriguez in a pregame ceremony set to begin around 5:40 p.m. before the game against the New York Yankees.
Rodriguez also will throw out the first pitch before the 6:05 game.
Rodriguez, who played for the Washington Nationals last year, began his 21-year career with Texas as a teenager in 1991. Rodriguez played for the Rangers until 2002 and again briefly in 2009. His name remains littered throughout the team's record book.
He's second in Rangers history in hits, doubles and multi-hit games. He is third in at-bats, triples and home runs. Rodriguez won the 1999 American League Most Valuable Player award when he hit .332 with 35 home runs and 113 RBI as the Rangers won their third American League West title in a four-year span.
Rodriguez, who won 13 Gold Gloves and was an All-Star selection 14 times, left Texas for Florida for the 2003 season and also played for Detroit, the New York Mets, Houston and Washington.
