The Texas Rangers took another step to solidify their bullpen Thursday, signing right-hander Jason Frasor to a one-year deal.
Frasor is the third proven reliever the Rangers have added this offseason, joining Joakim Soria and Josh Lindblom.
Frasor, 35, has played nine year in the majors with the bulk of his work coming in Toronto. Frasor is coming off a 2012 season in which he went 1-1 with a 4.12 ERA for Toronto. He had 53 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings despite missing six weeks with a strained right forearm.
Frasor, who will get $1.5 million, is healthy and eager to help the Texas bullpen.
"I'm glad I'm on that side now," Frasor said. "The roster's stacked. It looks like they have fun. I played with Darren Oliver last year and he had nothing but good things to say about (pitching coach) Mike Maddux and the clubhouse in general."
For his career, opponents are hitting just .239 against Frasor and right-handers are batting just .229. Frasor is 26-31 for his career with a 3.77 ERA over 525 appearances.
To make room for Frasor on the 40-man roster, Texas designated catcher Eli Whiteside for assignment. The Rangers have 40 players on their 40-man roster.
