Rangers put Napoli on DL with quad strain

ARLINGTON, Texas — Continued trouble with a left quadriceps strain has landed Rangers catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli on the 15-day disabled list.
The Rangers announced the move Saturday afternoon and recalled catcher Luis Martinez from Triple-A Round Rock.
Napoli sat out games in Boston on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then had an off day Thursday, to rest the quad. He played in Friday's home game against Detroit and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
Napoli, who is hitting .223 with 17 homers, leads the Rangers with 61 starts at catcher this season. The first date he is eligible to return from the DL is Aug. 26.
Martinez has spent the entire season in Round Rock and is batting .270 with two home runs and 22 RBI. He has thrown out 14 of 69 attempted base stealers.
Martinez has never appeared in a game for the Rangers but he played in 22 games over three stints with San Diego last season.
