The Texas Rangers officially put Prince Fielder on the 15-day disabled list Friday, calling up infielder Donnie Murphy from his injury rehab stint to take his spot.
Fielder, who had never been on the disabled list before, is expected to have cervical fusion surgery Tuesday to repair a herniated C5-C6 disk in his neck and miss the remainder of the season.
Murphy went on the disabled list May 6 after a fall when he tripped at first base. He was hitting .211 with a homer and seven RBI before going on the DL.

Fielder is the 13th current player on the DL for the Rangers, which leads the majors. The Rangers have made 17 DL moves so far this season, which also leads the majors.
