ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas pitcher Matt Harrison faced hitters for the first time since April Wednesday as he threw live batting practice at Rangers Ballpark.
The left-hander, who has been on the disabled list since April 11 and has had two back surgeries, had no issues during the session and is encouraged by the progress he's made.
"It felt really good," Harrison said. "I feel like I'm ready to start ramping things up. My arm felt great. My back felt good. I feel like I was able to hit my spots for the most part in live BP today and hopefully this continues and I continue to stay healthy."
Harrison said he threw 25 pitches Wednesday and will have another session again Saturday in Cleveland with Harrison throwing around 40 pitches.
From there the Rangers will figure out an extended plan for Harrison, who believes he can pitch for the Rangers next month.
"Progress," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "The hitters said his stuff was good but it's not ready for competition yet, but it's progress."
