Rangers begin reporting to spring training Feb. 16

The Texas Rangers will begin their quest to get back into the postseason Feb. 16, 2014, when pitchers and catchers report to Surprise, Ariz.

The full squad report date is Feb. 19 and the club begins full workouts the next day.

The exhibition slate begins Feb. 27 with a game against Kansas City at Surprise Stadium.

Texas will play 28 games in Arizona and three exhibition games in Texas. In addition to the two games against Houston in San Antonio March 28-29, the Rangers will host the Quintana Roo Tigers March 27 at Rangers Ballpark. It will mark the third-consecutive season the Rangers have hosted a Triple A team from Mexico.

Season tickets for spring training go on sale Dec. 17. Individual tickets go on sale by mail Dec. 2. They will be available online Dec. 9 and by phone and in person in Surprise starting Jan. 4.

In addition to releasing their spring slate Tuesday, the club made a series of moves within its baseball operations staff.

Scott Coolbaugh, who spent part of 2011 and 2012 as the Rangers hitting coach, has been promoted from Triple A hitting coach to the organization’s hitting coordinator. Former big leaguer Brook Jacoby has also been hired as the assistant hitting coordinator.

The club also hired James Keller as special assistant to the general manager and Brian Williams as the southeast regional crosschecker. Texas also promoted Mike Grouse (pro scout), Jay Eddings (pro scout), Jake Krug (special assignment crosschecker), Bobby Crook (amateur scout for North Texas) and Mike Klotsche (manager, amateur scouting).
