ARLINGTON, Texas -- Ryan Feierabend, who hasn't pitched in the major league in six seasons, could have that drought end Sunday.
The Rangers are purchasing the contract of the left-hander from Round Rock and either he or Scott Baker will start Sunday against Los Angeles. The Rangers sent left-hander Aaron Poreda to Round Rock to make room for Feierabend.
Feirerabend, 28, was 8-5 with a 4.54 ERA in 19 starts for the Express.
He made his big-league debut for Seattle in 2006 and spent parts of three seasons with the Mariners, going a combined 2-11 with a 7.22 ERA. He had Tommy John surgery in 2009 and also pitched for both the Cincinnati and Philadelphia organizations. He pitched for both Frisco and Round Rock last year.
It's been a long way back to the majors for Feireabend.
"After coming back from surgery everyone expects things are going to be just like they were before," he said. "Going from being a prospect with Seattle to basically being a nobody, finding myself in independent ball two years ago, sure I had times I thought I was going to have to retire being 26 years old. I'm glad I stuck with it and I'm glad the Rangers took a chance on me."
If Feierabend gets into a game, he'll be the 50th player used by the Rangers this season and the 30th pitcher. The club record for pitchers used in a season is 30.
