Quick Hits: Roster moves -- one (addition) to go

Early News: The Tigers optioned left-handers Blaine Hardy and Kyle Ryan to Toledo -- and assigned infielder Josh Wilson to minor-league camp.

The moves put their roster at 24 because of pitchers Justin Verlander and Bruce Rondon going on the disabled list on Thursday.

The Tigers will have to add a player before Opening Day on Monday. They leave Florida after Saturday's exhibition game, also against the Rays.

Tom Gage -- But as you leave spring training today, Dana, would you say the Tigers are a worried team -- or one that really thinks everything they're facing is minor?

Dana Wakiji -- They really do believe that both Verlander's right triceps strain and Rondon's biceps tendinitis are short-term and should not affect them throughout the season.

Of course, in his short career, Rondon has dealt with more than a few injury issues and Verlander's has lingered longer than expected, so there's cautious optimism.

TG -- As far as injuries are concerned, camp isn't ending the way the Tigers would like, but what can they point to as the best development of the spring?

DW -- Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said the main difference between this year's team and last year's is the defense.

With Anthony Gose in center field and Jose Iglesias at shortstop, they expect the defense to be better this season. They also hope all the extra work Nick Castellanos has done at third base pays there as well.

TG -- You're coming back to a chance of cold rain and maybe a snow flurry on Sunday. Sure you want to leave Florida?

DW -- As nice as the sunny skies and 80-degree temperatures are, it's time to come home -- if I can still remember where it is.

It's time for Opening Day at Comerica Park, no matter what the weather may be!
