Prosecutor: Evidence strong against coach in boy's killing

CANTON, N.Y. (AP) A prosecutor says there is plenty of evidence showing a former college soccer coach killed his ex-girlfriend's 12-year-old son.
Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick summed up the case against Oral ''Nick'' Hillary in St. Lawrence County Court on Thursday. Hillary is accused of killing Garrett Phillips in 2011 in an apartment in Potsdam in northern New York.
Prosecutors presented a largely circumstantial case because they lacked physical evidence. But Fitzpatrick says either Hillary killed the boy or he is a victim of ''the most bizarre convergence of coincidences'' in history.
Defense lawyers say Hillary is being demonized. Hillary's supporters have accused authorities in this largely white community of unjustly prosecuting a black man.
A judge heard the case without a jury. He's expected to make a decision next week.
