Prevc wins ski jump World Cup, matches win record

ALMATY, Kazakhstan (AP) Peter Prevc secured the ski jump World Cup overall title in impressive style Sunday with six events remaining.
The Slovenian jumped 139.5 and 139 meters on the HS140 hill with near-impeccable scores from the judges to win Sunday's competition with 325.9 points.
That put Prevc ahead of Germany's Severin Freund, who had been the remaining title contender. Freund had to settle for second place on 314.3 but had the consolation of setting a new hill record with a 141.5-meter second-round jump.
Third went to Norwegian Daniel-Andre Tande on 310.9.
Prevc has an insurmountable 619-point lead over Freund with a maximum of 600 points still available. He becomes the first Slovenian World Cup champion since Primoz Peterka in 1998 and matches Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer's all-time record of 13 wins in a season. That record could fall as soon as next week at the next competition in Poland.
Earlier Sunday, Sara Takanashi ended the women's World Cup season with her 14th win. The Japanese teenager led the standings all winter and secured her third career title in Finland earlier this month.
On Sunday, she was not quite her usual dominant self on the HS100 hill in the first round, coming third with a 96.5-meter jump, but made up for it with a 102-meter leap in the second to take first with a 236.9-point total.
Austria's Daniela Iraschko-Stolz was second on 234.7, while Slovenia's Maja Vtic took third on 233.9.
Olympic and world champion Carina Vogt of Germany was sixth Sunday after a season in which she did not make a single podium.
Sunday's longest jump was 103.5 meters by Nita Englund of the U.S., who was seventh.
