Last week during the McDonald's All-American festivities, my colleagues -- Josh Gershon, Beth Long and Rob Harrington -- and myself asked the participating athletes who they thought was player and defender in the 2014 class.
While the answers varied some, in the end players were fairly unanimous in their selections.
Jahil Okafor, who is currently Scout.com's No. 1 player, received 10 of the 22 votes, as the top player in the class. He backed up that talk during the McDonaldâs game, where he was a co-MVP, as well as during the competitive practices.
Arizona signee Stanley Johnson received the second most votes with five. Emmanuel Mudiay and Cliff Alexander each picked up two votes, while Kelly Oubre, Tyus Jones and Kevon Looney had one vote from their peers.
On the defensive side of things, Duke signee Justise Winslow secured 11 of the 22 votes. Stanley Johnson received three votes, as did Myles Turner. Cliff Alexander picked up two votes and Trey Lyles, Tyus Jones and Joel Berry each picked up one.
Two players didn't partake in the voting process.
